Kim - South Africa

Hi Volunteer Worldwide,

I just got back from my trip to South Africa and thought it would be nice to share a bit about my experience. The past three months were absolutely fantastic. During the first two weeks, I explored the different project options with the project supervisors and was able to join a group of other travellers right away.

In the end, I taught swimming lessons twice a week at a primary school. In addition, we created a document on how to give swimming lessons, which can be shared across different primary schools. On the other two days, I taught sports lessons at a special education school to children of various ages.

Outside of the projects, I had a lot of fun with a great group of Belgian and Dutch students. We went on several safaris, weekend trips to beautiful places like Jeffreys Bay and Tsitsikamma (with the world’s highest bungee jump bridge), and, as the cherry on top, a two-week trip to Cape Town.

I saw and experienced so much in this beautiful country. I especially miss the relaxed atmosphere. People are friendly and always up for a chat. Even when the electricity went out for a couple of hours due to planned power cuts, they stayed positive instead of complaining. I’m grateful for everything I experienced and learned.

Thank you for everything, because it wouldn’t have been possible without you!
